Cloud9 finishes in fourth place at Flashpoint Season 1

Cloud9 has been fighting their way through the playoffs of Flashpoint Season 1, showcasing some fantastic CS:GO along the way. The team made it out of the group stages in a great position, with two South African players (Johnny “JT” Theodosiou and Aran “Sonic” Groesbeek, Joshua) as well as a South African coach, Tiaan “T.c” Coertzen. Last night, on 14 April 2020, the team got eliminated from the tournament, finishing in a respectable fourth place.

Cloud9 managed to secure one of the top seeds going into the playoffs, placing fourth in terms of points in the group stages. They only lost out to HAVU Gaming in the second phase group finals.

In the Upper Bracket of the playoffs, Cloud9 managed to beat Gen.G Esports 2-0. The team advanced to the semi-finals to face off against MAD Lions. Unfortunately, MAD Lions knocked Cloud9 down to the lower bracket with a 2-0 score. In this match, we saw an exciting 25-23 game on Inferno, followed by a 16-7 game on Nuke.

Cloud9 fought back in the lower bracket, beating Orgless 2-1 after losing the first map. With only one match remaining before they could make it to the lower bracket final, Cloud9 yet again faced HAVU Gaming.

On the first map, Nuke, HAVU Gaming took an early lead, and managed to hold onto it against Cloud9, winning the first map 16-11. With their tournament lives on the line, Cloud9 didn’t manage to even out the match. They lost 16-8 on Vertigo, thereby getting eliminated from the tournament.

With the fourth-place finish, Cloud9 claims their $50,000 prize. At the current Dollar to Rand conversion rate, their winnings are just over R917,000.

There are only two matches remaining, which will take place this weekend. You can watch the matches live on the Flashpoint Twitch.tv and YouTube channels.
