Cloud9’s CS:GO squad qualifies for Flashpoint playoffs

The Cloud9 CS:GO squad, in case you didn’t know, features two South African players (Johnny “JT” Theodosiou and Aran “Sonic” Groesbeek, Joshua) as well as a South African coach, Tiaan “T.c” Coertzen. The team has been playing in the Flashpoint CS:GO tournament, fighting their way through the group stages.

Cloud9 group stage results

The group stages for Flashpoint took place in a two-phase, double-elimination GSL-style format. Basically, this means that there were two group stages, where teams accumulated points. The teams who ended up in the bottom four after both group stage phases completed have now been eliminated.

Cloud9 did exceptionally well during the group stage for Flashpoint, which finished up last night. The team won their first group stage without dropping a single match. In phase two, Cloud9 lost against Envy in the first round, but came back swinging, taking down CPHF and Envy, to meet HAVU Gaming in the final round last night.

Unfortunately, Cloud9 lost 2-0 to HAVU Gaming in the second phase group finals. However, Cloud9 still managed to secure one of the top seeds going into the playoffs, placing fourth in terms of points.
