Extra Salt goes undefeated to win DreamHack Open March NA

Team Liquid was by far the highest-ranked CS:GO team to compete at DreamHack March 2021 North America. However, Extra Salt, with two South African players and a coach, managed to win the entire tournament, claiming their first big victory since their recent roster change.

DreamHack Open March NA results

Extra Salt went through the entire DreamHack Open March NA tournament without losing a single match. In both the group stage and the playoffs, the squad only dropped one map, making this an extremely dominating performance.

Extra Salt finished at the top of their group with a clean 2-0 record to make their way into the playoffs. In the semi-finals of the playoffs, Extra Salt made quick work of High Coast Esports with a rather convincing 16-14 win on Dust II, followed by a 16-11 win on Vertigo.

In the other semi-finals, paiN Gaming shocked viewers as they beat the tournament favourites, Team Liquid, with a map score of 2-1, claiming a spot in the grand final. When it came to the grand final, which was best-of-five, Extra Salt only needed three maps to claim victory, beating paiN Gaming on Inferno, Train and Mirage to win the entire tournament.

The final standings:
  • 1st place – Extra Salt wins $35,000 & spot at IEM Season 14
  • 2nd place – paiN Gaming wins $15,000
  • 3rd & 4th place – Team Liquid and High Coast Esports wins $6,000
  • 5th & 6th place – Triumph and Bad News Bears wins $2,500
  • 7th & 8th place – RBG Esports and Rebirth Esports wins $1,500

A big congratulations go out to Extra Salt for winning DreamHack Open March NA, and claiming a spot at IEM Season 14 which is taking place later this year. It was incredibly exciting to see South African players compete so well against international competition.
