Valorant 5.06 update buffs Stinger SMG and makes Pearl map changes
Following the Valorant Champions 2022, which Brazillian squad LOUD won in spectacular, dominating fashion, developer Riot Games has released the Valorant 5.06 update. The update buffs an underused, underpowered weapon and makes several changes to the Pearl map. Here’s what competitive players need to know.
Valorant 5.06 patch notes
While patch notes are not for everyone, knowing about a weapon balance change is essential for competitive players. Riot Games has buffed the low-cost SMG, called the Stinger. This should make it way more attractive during ranked matches and tournaments.
Riot has listed the changes in the official patch notes and explained why two buffs had been granted to the Stinger SMG. Read all about it below.
- Primary Fire error adjusted from 1.6 error after 7 bullets >>> 1.3 error after 6 bullets
- Our goal for the Stinger is to feel controllable and appropriately lethal at short ranges, but currently, even in close-quarters, it can feel out-of-control. Lowering the top spread should make it feel more reliable at the appropriate range once you’ve overcome the learning curve of the recoil.
- Alt Fire first shot error adjusted from .5 >>> .35
- For an option that’s about being more accurate, it felt like the first shot had more variance than we’d like, especially at the ranges you’d want to use the burst fire mode.
Apart from the Stinger SMG buff with the Valorant 5.06 update also comes several changes to the Pearl map. Pearl gets a handful of minor updates that “reduce complexity” and make it easier for attackers and defenders to move through a few areas.
In a very informative video, YouTuber Kanga shows off all the changes and talks us through them.

It will be interesting to see if players pick up the Stinger SMG much more in competitive Valorant following the buff and if the Pearl changes will affect strats.
