Registrations for The Rand Show 2020 esports tournaments open
Last week, we reported that Mettlestate, Rush Esports and Vodacom 4U are teaming up to bring six days of competitive gaming to The Rand Show 2020 in the Festival of Gaming. Since then, every other day, one esports tournament has been announced. Now, we know all four tournaments as registrations have opened up. 8 April 2020 simply can’t come soon enough as it is sure to be an event local gamers shouldn’t miss out on.
Festival of Gaming details
The Festival of Gaming forms part of The Rand Show 2020 and there are four awesome esports tournaments to attend. The titles include CS:GO, FIFA, Assetto Corsa and, of course, Fortnite. The esports tournaments at the Festival of Gaming boasts some excellent prize pools and a great variety of titles to compete in.
For those who don’t know yet, The Rand Show 2020 takes place from 8 to 13 April at the Johannesburg Expo Centre. Players will need to purchase a ticket for The Rand Show 2020. Tickets to the Rand Show can be purchased online or at the door:
- Standard Day Pass – R150 at the door / R130 online (price valid only until 31 March 2020. After March, R150)
- Kids Day Pass – R80 at the door / R70 online (price valid only until 31 March 2020. After March, R80)
- Pensioners Day Pass – R80 at the door / R70 online (price valid only until 31 March 2020. After March, R80)
- Family Pass – R460 at the door / R400 online (price valid only until 31 March 2020. After March, R460)
- Multi-day Pass – R400 online only (valid for one person for any 4 days)

CS:GO Cup
The CS:GO cup features an R80,000 prize pool that is broken down into the following:
- First place: R50,000
- Second place: R20,000
- Third place: R10,000
You can register for the CS:GO cup by heading to its Mettlestate page. Online qualifiers will take place from 10 to 22 March and will be played in a BO1 Round Robin format. The top 16 teams from the online qualifiers will need to make their way to The Rand Show and compete in a double-elimination bracket. The playoffs run from 8 to 13 April with the finals scheduled to start on 13 April at 09:30.
Assetto Corsa Cup
The Assetto Corsa cup features an R23,000 prize pool that is broken down into the following:
- First place: R10,000
- Second place: R7,000
- Third place: R4,000
- Fourth place: R2,000
You can register for the Assetto Corsa cup by heading to its Mettlestate page. Online qualifiers will take place from 10 to 22 March with two drivers per team. The top 12 from the qualifiers will compete in a “2 Hour Enduro” event on 11 April and those who make it to the podium will be the winners.
FIFA Cup
The FIFA cup features a prize pool of R46,000, broken down into the following:
- First place: R20,000
- Second place: R10,000
- Third place: R7,000
- Fourth place: R4,000
- Fifth place: R3,000
- Sixth place: R2,000
Register for the FIFA cup by heading to its Mettlestate page. The entire tournament will be played at The Rand Show with the group stage (in Round Robin format) taking place from 8 to 11 April. The top 32 players from the group stage will have to fight their way through a single-elimination bracket from 12 to 13 April, with the finals scheduled to start on 13 April at 12:00.
Fortnite Cup
The Fortnite cup boasts a combined prize pool of R33,000, broken down into the following:
- First place: R15,000
- Second place: R10,000
- Third place: R6,000
- Fourth Place: R2,000
The Fortnite cup will be a Duo Kill Race and platforms include PC, PS4 and iPad. The top duo from each day will play in the finals on 13 April. Teams will score one point per elimination and four points per victory. Head on over to the Fortnite cup page to register.
