The last DPC Major of the season has officially been cancelled
While we not-so-patiently await the release of the Dota 2 Battle Pass after Valve postponed The International 2020, there was still one Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) Major left standing. Now, the last DPC Major of the season, ONE Esports Singapore Major 2020, has officially been cancelled.
ONE Esports Singapore Major cancelled
The ONE Esports Singapore Major was supposed to take place from 20 to 28 June 2020. Due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, the tournament is no longer possible.
Tournament organizer PGL announced this news on Twitter, explaining that:
“Due to the current global situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic and the current regulations in Singapore, we want to inform everybody that the last DOTA 2 Major of the year, Singapore Major, will be cancelled. Take care, be strong, and keep yourselves safe and healthy!”
Multiple ex-DPC events went the online, regional tournament route, and it is still unknown if the ONE Esports Singapore Major by PGL will go down the same path. At the moment, all we know is that the Major has definitely been cancelled.
It remains to be seen how Valve will handle DPC Major and qualifiers going forward, as DPC points are the way to determine which teams qualify for The International.
An online version is certainly possible. However, there are some issues to take into consideration. These issues include time zones, which servers to use, and of course latency, which we’ve already seen caused top teams such as OG to stumble.
Dota 2 fans are, however, not left out in the cold. There is a lot of great Dota 2 esports to watch. For example, there’s the WePlay! Pushka league which ends on 12 May 2020. Then there’s the unique BLAST Bounty Hunt tournament to look forward to.
