PGL Major Antwerp 2022 announced
Back in November 2021, with an electric atmosphere in the Avicii Arena in Stockholm, Sweden, the PGL Stockholm Major took place. This was the first CS:GO esports Major in over two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait another two years for the next CS:GO Major. Valve and PGL have announced the PGL Major Antwerp 2022, and we are extremely excited!
PGL Major Antwerp 2022
Valve and PGL announced the PGL Major Antwerp 2022 recently. CS:GO esports fans can now mark their calendars for the next Major, which will run from 9 to 22 May 2022. As the name might suggest, the tournament will take place in Belgium, at the massive Antwerps Sportpaleis arena! It appears that only the last three days, from 19 to 22 May, will be played in the arena in front of a crowd.
The tournament will feature 24 qualified teams. At the time of writing, the teams participating have not been revealed, since RMR qualifier events still need to be played. We do know, however, that teams will fight for their share of the $1 million prize pool. At the current Dollar to Rand exchange rate, that’s roughly R15.5 million.
CEO of PGL, Silviu Stroie, states:
“We are glad to have the opportunity to bring back the fans and players together for another CS:GO Major. Belgium has an impressive Counter-Strike fanbase, and many legendary players were born in this country. We are ready to offer an incredible experience for the fans inside the arena and the passionate viewers at home.”
The Mayor of Antwerp, Bart De Wever, explains:
“We are very excited to see this top-tier esports championship happening in Antwerp. The CS:GO Majors have millions of viewers, and tens of thousands of fans will visit our city to attend the matches. It is also the first time this tournament will take place in Belgium or the Netherlands. It puts Antwerp on the map internationally as a hot spot for esports, an immensely interesting and fast-developing sector.”
We are extremely excited about the second CS:GO Major since the COVID-19 pandemic hit. While some fans might have concerns over PGL being the host, due to some technical issues during the Stockholm Major, its still top tier Counter-Strike on LAN!
