Latest CS:GO update makes changes to Ancient and more

Earlier this month, Valve made a big announcement for CS:GO esports fans. The developer, for the first time in two years, changed up the Active Duty map pool. This map pool is used in tournaments, and the last time we saw a change is when Cache was replaced by Vertigo in March 2019. Now, with the latest CS:GO update, Valve has made some changes and fixes to Ancient, alongside two other maps.

CS:GO Ancient changes

In a new CS:GO update, Valve made several fixes and deployed some changes to Ancient. This is important for CS:GO esports fans to know about, as well as local teams who plan on participating in South African tournaments, as Ancient is now a map to be used in events for the foreseeable future.

Ancient changes & fixes:
  • Implemented Cubby 2.0 in mid connector to A, to remove cheap shoulder angle towards site
  • Slimmed down the fancy rock, also in mid connector to A
  • Sparsed foliage and improved clipping on boost planter near A main
  • Quieted down soundscape birds
  • Removed clipping from top of bombsite sign in A site, allowing you to self-boost to planter by T main
  • Added vphysics clip to T spawn water so guns don’t fully submerge
  • So many clip brush tweaks
  • Blocked grenades from entering inaccessible building by T entrance to mid
  • Blocked pixelgaps through scaffolding near B site
  • Blocked pixelgaps through doorway trim in new CT path to A site
  • Simplified grenade collision on rooftops
  • General optimizations

Grind and Frostbite maps have also seen some improvements and changes in the latest CS:GO update from Valve, which you can view below.

Grind changes & fixes:
  • Made wall on A long surfable
  • Fixed invisible wall near B site
  • Fixed out of map boost near A site
  • Fixed collision of wall near A site
  • Fixed collision of pillars around A site
  • Minor art updates around T spawn
Frostbite fixes:
  • Fixed a regression with airdrops
  • Fixed stuck spots
  • Fixed a gap in terrain
  • Reworked watchtower models

It remains to be seen how top tier CS:GO teams will perform on Ancient, and which teams will continue to remove it via the Map Veto process for quite some time. It is, however, great that Valve continues to improve Ancient since this is the new Active Duty map.
