Valve replaces Train with Ancient in CS:GO’s Active Duty map pool

Valve made a big announcement for CS:GO esports fans this week, as for the first time since March 2019, there is a change coming to the Active Duty map pool. This map pool is used in tournaments, and the last time we saw a change is when Cache was replaced by Vertigo over two years ago.

Ancient replaces Train in CS:GO

With Operation Broken Fang coming to an end, Valve has released a new CS:GO update which sees several changes to maps in the game. The biggest change by far is that Ancient is replacing Train in CS:GO’s Active Duty map pool.

Valve announced the change via Twitter, stating that: “Thanks to everyone who took part in Operation Broken Fang. As of now, the Operation has concluded. Players have until May 15th to spend Operation Stars. We have a few updates today, beginning with the Active Duty Map Pool – Train has been removed and Ancient has been added.”

Alongside this change in the Active Duty map pool, Valve has made some changes to Ancient to get the map ready for competitive play.

The Ancient changes are:
  • New route from CT spawn to A site
  • Widened T entrance to left side of mid
  • Opened up skylight in T tunnel to A site
  • Extended plantable bomb zone in B site
  • Opened up ledge in A site
  • Various minor bugfixes

It is important to note that for the first few RMR events taking place, the tournaments will utilize the old Active Duty map pool, as this change will definitely affect some teams in the near future.

Also in the latest CS:GO update, Valve has released the Snakebite Case, featuring 17 community-designed weapon finishes, and the Broken Fang Case set of gloves as rare special items.

There are some more changes and fixes to maps in the CS:GO update released this week, so don’t forget to check out the full patch notes.
