ESEA Season 33 South Africa finals
Goliath Gaming made their way through the tournament bracket with ease, beating Omnius Gaming 2-0. In the ESEA Season 33 South Africa finals, Goliath Gaming had to face off against Big 5 Esports.
The finals played out in a BO3 format, but Goliath only needed two maps to finish it off. On Nuke, the first half was pretty close, with Goliath only having a 9-6 lead. In the second half, Goliath didn’t give Big 5 Esports any room to move, closing out the first map with a score of 16-6.
The second game took place on Mirage, with Goliath Gaming taking a big lead as T’s with a first-half score of 13-2. Big 5 Esports did fight back in the second half, but Goliath Gaming managed to close it out with relative ease, beating their opponents 16-5.
With the win, Goliath Gaming took home $1,500 (roughly R27,000) and the championship title. We caught up with Goliath Gaming’s manager and a couple of team members for comment.
Goliath Gaming’s manager, Ashton “Golz” Muller, talks about the team’s performance and lineup:
“Taking the first title of 2020 is obviously a delight for us. It’s our first local competition since adM has joined GG and taken the reigns from an IGL & Captain perspective.  I personally felt he was an awesome fit to the team and it’s great to see that translate into results on the server.
It’s also really good to see that our team is performing at a high level and especially so when it’s our younger players coming through and performing like Mango did in this final, and bringing the title home.â€
As you may or may not know, Adam “adM†Mansoor joined the team in February. By all accounts, this has been a great move and the team is looking fantastic.
Wiljahne “Mango” Smith on team & addition of adM:
“Adam has brought a new level of structure and discipline within the team and has had a massive impact on everyone individually and personally, has given me a new outlook on CS and how it should be approached.”
Mango further commented on the ESEA win and the team’s recent performance:
“I feel like as a team we reached a level of cohesion in the last few days that we had not yet seen in ourselves in the past. Something definitely clicked and I think everyone saw that.”
A big congrats go out to the squad as they continue to impress. Check out some highlights from the ESEA Season 33 South Africa finals below.
