Doritos Crunch Cup Fortnite series announced with R45,000 prize pool

The “Coolest Snack brand in South Africa”, Doritos, has entered the local esports scene in a big way. Comic Con Africa and Doritos have joined forces to serve up the Doritos Crunch Cup Fortnite tournament series, featuring a combined prize pool of R45,000. Here’s what you need to know, including how you can pre-register!

Doritos Crunch Cup series details

First and foremost, these are online tournaments, so you can enter from anywhere in South Africa. Registrations go live on 11 April 2022 but you can pre-register today to be the first to receive a registration link, as spots are limited.

Via a Press Release we’ve received, Comic Con Africa’s show director, Carla Massmann, explains “With Doritos® already holding such an ingrained place in pop-culture and gaming culture, Comic Con Africa is proud to power the Doritos® Crunch Cup. This is something that our gaming community will really appreciate. Comic Con Africa is home to some of the largest esports and gaming festivities in the country, and welcoming Doritos® into that ecosystem is thrilling.”

There will be three Fortnite tournaments (all online) in the Doritos Crunch Cup series, with the first one starting in early May with qualifiers. Each tournament will feature four qualifiers leading up to the semi-finals and grand finals.

Doritos Crunch Cup tournaments:

• 2 to 8 May 2022 – Tournament #1 – Solo with R10 000 cash prize pool
• 9 to 15 May 2022 – Tournament #2 – Duos with R15 000 cash prize pool
• 16 to 22 May 2022 – Tournament #3 – Trios with R20 000 cash prize pool

Yes, the month of May suddenly got packed with local Fortnite esports action. There will also be weekly “watch and win” prizes for spectators. Speaking of spectators, they can watch all the action for the semi-finals and grand finals of each tournament in the Doritos Crunch Cup series via the official Comic Con Africa Twitch channel.

A pre-tournament broadcast will also take place on 29 April at 17:00 SAST. This broadcast will go into all the Doritos Crunch Cup Fortnite series tournaments. We will be covering all three tournaments individually, including full schedules and more before the start of May 2022.
