Red Bull Campus Clutch announced: Open to South African university students

If you are a university student and happen to love playing Riot Games’ Valorant, then the Red Bull Campus Clutch global esports tournament is a great new initiative from Red Bull to look forward to. Best of all, it is open to South African university students. Here’s what you need to know about the Red Bull Campus Clutch global esports tournament.

Red Bull Campus Clutch details

The tournament is, of course, exclusive to university students. Red Bull Campus Clutch will feature more than 300 universities across over 50 countries. Teams of five university students will battle it out through the qualifiers, the National Finals and then finally, the World Finals.

All national champion teams will make their way to the World Finals, which is without a doubt a once in a lifetime opportunity. Here, they will compete against the world’s finest student Valorant competitors, and will also win a “cutting-edge gaming hub for their university.” The team who wins the World Finals will get €20,000 in prize money, which is roughly R367,000 at the current Euro to Rand exchange rate.

South African university teams will compete in the local regional qualifiers which will take place in March. This will be followed by the National Final in April 2021, where one team will emerge as the National Champions. Dates, times and venues are yet to be announced. However, you can apply and sign up on the official Red Bull Campus Clutch event page.

In a Press Release, Red Bull explains:

“As the esports industry continues to thrive, university esports plays a pivotal role in ensuring the ecosystem remains sustainable and provides a much-needed path for new talent to shine. Red Bull Campus Clutch is a new grassroots event that aims to take university esports to the next level by creating a global structure, inviting students to not only represent their campus, but their country, and pave the way for the next generation of esports pro players.”

This is without a doubt an exciting opportunity for university students. There’s no better time to get your feet wet in the world of Valorant esports. We will keep you updated as more information on the South African qualifiers become available. Good luck to all the teams who plan on entering the qualifiers.
