New OG Dota 2 roster revealed and True Sight released

OG is, without a doubt, the most successful Dota 2 esports team ever. Through two Dota Pro Circuit seasons, the OG squad stuck together. Against all possible odds, they won The International 2018, and then The International 2019. OG became the first-ever two-time TI champions and they did it two years in a row. It is a feat that is so improbable that it will very likely never happen again. Now, the full new OG Dota 2 roster has been revealed and it is tough to bet against this new squad.

OG’s new carry – Suma1L

Earlier this week, Anathan “Ana” Pham, a fan-favourite at TI 2019, once again announced that he would be taking an extended break and not participate this DPC season. Then, Jesse ‘Jerax’ Vainikka announced his retirement from Dota 2 and Sebastien “Ceb” Debs announced he would be returning to his coaching position. OG’s TI-winning roster looked to be in shambles, but just after the release of the latest True Sight earlier this week, OG revealed that Sumail “Suma1L” Hassan would be filling the enormous shoes of Ana.

Suma1L is one of the best and most famous carry players of all time in the Dota 2 esports scene and was the youngest player to ever win a TI at The International 2015 with Evil Geniuses at the age of 15.

OG introduced Suma1L in a press release, explaining that:

The strive for excellence is what always drives us to go further here at OG. And that’s precisely what a player like Sumail has to offer. Pretty sure we don’t need to introduce Sumail “Suma1L” Hassan to any of you anymore. On top of being one of the best core players this scene has ever carved, as well as the youngest TI winner there is, he’s also powered by an insatiable will to win and perform at the highest level.

Suma1L parted ways with Evil Geniuses after The International 2019 and since then, this prolific player has been floating around some teams, but never really settled in. If his past performances are anything to go by, his role in the new OG Dota 2 roster will be that of an absolute beast with kill scores in the double digits more often than not.

OG’s new offlane – MidOne

Replacing Sebastien “Ceb” Debs in the offlane is Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng. The 23-year-old Malaysian player is extremely well known, having won three Majors with Team Secret and last year at The International 2019, Secret placed fourth. Shortly afterwards, however, MidOne parted ways with Secret.

While MidOne didn’t have the best performance during The International 2019, his addition to the new OG Dota 2 roster is still a frightening one for opponents. When on top form, MidOne is an absolute beast, a fearless, nearly unstoppable force. While MidOne is a player to be feared, he is the only one in the new OG Dota 2 roster that hasn’t made it to a TI grand finals.

OG’s position 4 – Saksa

On paper, OG’s position 4 player who is replacing Jerax, is arguably the least-accomplished in recent times. However, Martin “Saksa” Sazdov, a 24-year-old Macedonian player, might be very familiar to those who watched The International 2016.

During TI6, Saksa played for Digital Chaos, who made it all the way to the grand finals where they lost to Wings Gaming. In 2019, Saksa won two DPC events with NiP, namely the OGA Dota Pit Minor 2019 and StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor Season 2.

The complete new OG Dota 2 Roster

The new OG roster looks incredibly strong on paper, but it remains to be seen how well these players will gel and if this team will have that same spark and hunger that we saw in the last two The International tournaments.

With Saksa rounding out the roster for this DPC season, the complete OG roster looks like:

  • Sumail “Suma1L” Hassan
  • Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen
  • Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng
  • Martin “Saksa” Sazdov
  • Johan “N0tail” Sunsdtein

OG’s first big showing this season will be in the ESL One Los Angeles 2020 European Open Qualifiers. These qualifiers start soon, on 3 February 2020, so you won’t have to wait long to “dream OG” once again.

True Sight: The International 2019 Finals

The latest True Sight has been released and even if you aren’t a Dota 2 esports fan specifically, it is well worth your time. It is an incredible 80-minute documentary by Valve. It features OG and Team Liquid’s journey to the grand finals of The International 2019.

True Sight features both teams, never-before-seen footage and it will give any Dota 2 fan nerd chills. It features some of the greatest plays of the tournament, as well as comments from players, casters, presenters and more. A behind-the-scenes look at the tournament where OG made esports history. Watch it on the official Dota 2 YouTube channel right now.
