Dota 2 Battle Pass Guilds feature causing issues
Valve unleashed the Dota 2 Battle Pass this week. With the Battle Pass comes a tonne of features, and it is definitely the biggest one ever.
One of these features is the ability for players to create guilds and invite others to join in the fun. However, this feature is also causing some issues.
Dota 2 Battle Pass Guilds feature
For those who’ve been living under a rock, the Guilds feature is described as:
“There’s nothing more satisfying than smashing an Ancient with a great group of friends, and then doing the same thing again and again. With the introduction of Guilds, you can join a community of like-minded players to ensure that you always have the right team at your back on that road to victory. Work together to level up your guild and you’ll also earn rewards for yourself and fellow members.”
This is great in theory. However, people are being spammed with guild invites. You don’t need to be on someone’s friend’s list to send them an invite, as it can be done after randomly matching with players, not on your friend’s list.
Some players are using the Dota 2 Battle Pass Guilds feature to troll streamers, and just about everyone else they want to.
The most disturbing, high-profile trolling so far saw someone send a guild invite to caster and streamer, Michelle “Moxxi” Song.
After completing a match, Moxxi received a guild invite while streaming. The guild image (players can upload any picture) was that of male genitalia. Furthermore, the guild’s name was a racial slur. We won’t go into the details for obvious reasons.
Moxxi called on Valve via Twitter:
“Hey Valve? Can we please implement a way to block Dota 2 guild invites from non-friends or something? I don’t appreciate getting sent photos of dicks disguised as guild invites while I’m streaming.”
At the time of writing, Valve hasn’t fixed the issue or made an official comment on the matter.
