The organizations revealed that Ryan “ChiDoWi” Lancaster and Charl “Welp” Geldenhuys would move from White Rabbit Gaming to LeetPro, effective from the 14th of May 2018. The shocking change completely reframes the local competitive Dota 2 landscape, as WRG have been the undisputed champions since late 2016. LeetPro, on the other hand, are a rising MGO that even prior to these transfers had picked up some fairly big name players.

Rumours regarding the move indicate that some form of payment could have potentially exchanged hands between the MGOs, although I’ve been unable to confirm these reports (nor ascertain any reported amounts). Both players were under contract at WRG so it seems reasonable that LeetPro would have to offer WRG something tangible to lure the players away from the MGO. LeetPro will have to make some changes to accommodate ChiDoWi and Welp, with both Chelsea) and TKC being replaced.

WRG now only have two of their core roster remaining in Schlinks and oDu. I reached out to Schlinks who said that rebuilding WRG is now the main priority. While Chelsea) and TKC have been benched at LeetPro, I imagine that both of these players will be looking for new teams in the coming months.

Q&A with Chad “acg” Simpson

I reached out to acg yesterday to ask about the new additions to the LeetPro team, and where they think this leaves their team in terms of the local competitive landscape.

Chris House: A huge announcement on Friday. What can you tell us about the addition of ChiDoWi and Welp?

Chad “acg” Simpson: Our main reason for the pickups is that we heavily lack a captain in our team. There was a lot of arguing between players in-game, we often didn’t have proper drafts, and we lost a lot of games because of these issues I think. Bringing ChiDoWi in is mainly for the captaincy thing and Welp for shotcalling. These are two huge additions for us.

Where and how are the new additions going to fit into the current roster?

ChiDoWi will play position 4 and Welp is going to play position 5. Welp used to play support in the very beginning of WRG. I think he’s pretty used to that role. I think ChiDoWi is completely new to position 4 though, but it’s something he wants to do.

Do you think the balance of personalities on the team is going to be more manageable going forward?

I think that was the problem in our last team, which is why the roster changes were needed. I think between Chelsea) and Depi, both their personalities clashed a lot. It was a huge problem. I’ve played a lot of Dota with ChiDoWi and Welp, and they’re both very calm and collected players. I think it’ll help a lot.

Chelsea) and TKC, any positive words about them?

I’m sure any team in South Africa will pick either of them up. They’re both really good players, they just didn’t fit with our lineup at the moment.

What are LeetPro’s plans for the immediate future?

We plan on definitely winning all the future LANs. That’s our first goal. After that we haven’t really spoken about it. The lineup is still brand new, so we’ll speak about long-term goals pretty soon.

Where do you think LeetPro stands in the competitive landscape, compared to the likes of WRG, Sin5, et cetera?

I think we’re going to be the strongest team in the country, for quite a while. I do think there are teams that can definitely beat us though, if they get their act together. Sinister5 being one of them, but they need to sort out a lot of problems first. I think Aperture Gaming as well, if they make one or two roster changes as well, they can be pretty strong. Same with WRG, depending on who they pick up. Either of these three teams could be really strong. There’s also upcoming teams like Epoch Esports, who are getting better. We’ll have to see when the LANs come.

Anything else before we wrap up?

Shoutout to LeetPro. They’re the best organization I’ve ever played for, by far. Not dissing any other organizations though. They’re just amazing.

Thanks for your time, Chad. Good luck going forward. If you want to catch this new LeetPro roster in action then you have to wait until the 14th of May for the transfer to take effect. The old LeetPro roster is up against Sinister5 tonight at 20h00 in a Ballistix Masters clash.
