Na’Vi crushes Gambit to win DreamHack Masters Spring 2021
Over the past two weeks, we saw some of the top CS:GO esports teams in the world battle it out at DreamHack Masters Spring 2021. While Extra Salt (with two South Africans and a coach) were among the squads, they got knocked out quite quickly during the group stage.
Despite the disappointment for South African fans, DreamHack Masters Spring 2021 delivered with some fantastic top tier CS:GO action. Here’s what went down during the playoffs, as well as the final standings of DreamHack Masters Spring 2021.
DreamHack Masters Spring 2021 results
Natus Vincere (Na’Vi) took the DreamHack Masters Spring 2021 playoffs by storm, beating down Brazillian team FURIA Esports with a 2-1 win after going down a map. Na’Vi continued their run through the single-elimination bracket by beating Danish squad Heroic in a close 2-1 match to book their spot in the Grand Finals.
On the other side of the bracket, Gambit Esports (currently ranked 1st in the world) took care of business by defeating Astralis with a 2-1 scoreline, and G2 Esports with a clean 2-0 victory to make their way into the Grand Finals.
Despite Na’Vi being a bit lower-ranked at 3rd place, and Gambit being ranked in 1st place for the top CS:GO teams in the world, the Grand Finals of DreamHack Masters Spring 2021 was one-sided but not in the way you would expect.
Na’Vi came out swinging with incredible force on the first map in the best-of-five Grand Finals, beating Gambit on their map pick of Overpass with a score of 16-7. On Dust II, the dominance continued as Na’Vi closed out the map with a score of 16-12. Despite Gambit Esports waking up on the third map (Train), Na’Vi simply didn’t give Gambit a chance to claim one map, beating them down with a score of 16-12.
With the win, Na’Vi claimed the first-place prize of $100,000. Their star AWPer, Aleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev won the tournament MVP award. While Na’Vi showed up in a big way at DreamHack Masters Spring 2021, it remains to be seen if the famous CIS team can keep up their form, as they have been a bit inconsistent over the years.
