Counter-Strike 2 Season 2 is out now with big changes

Since its launch in late September 2024, Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) has been in its first season for Premier Mode. Now, finally, Season 2 has been unleashed by Valve, and it’s a big one. Here’s what you need to know so you can jump into the action right away, including gun balance changes and more.

CS2 Season 2 details

The first thing Premier Mode, competitive players, and esports fans need to know is that Train has replaced Vertigo in the Active Duty map pool. This means that you’ll see Train in esports tournaments and Premier Mode, while Vertigo won’t be on the map list.

Secondly, there are some gun balance changes, to the M4A4, FAMAS, and a few SMGs. Check these out below:

  • M4A4 price reduced to $2,900
  • FAMAS accuracy improved and price reduced to $1,950
  • Reduced crouching accuracy for the MP9, MP5-SD, and MP7
  • Adjusted scope dot on AUG/SG to be more useable at range

With the end of Season One also comes some rewards. The cool thing is, if you just played a tiny bit of Premier Mode since the release of CS2 in September last year, you’ll get a unique medal for your troubles. In a recent blog post, Valve explained how the Premier Season One Medal will work, stating that:

“To celebrate, every player who earned a CS Rating during Season One will receive a commemorative Premier Season One Medal. Your medal includes detailed Season Statistics that you can view by clicking on the medal in your inventory. Review your Season One highs and lows with graphs of your CSR and playtime, or view your map-specific stats to find areas of improvement for Season Two.”

The second season of CS2 will come to an end after the BLAST.tv Austin Major, which is scheduled to finish on 22 June 2025. Players can earn a Premier Season Two Medal by winning 25 Premier Mode matches, having an active CS Rating, and an account in good standing. The latter probably didn’t have to be said, but hey, here we are.
