COD at Canal Walk online qualifier registrations open
Back in April 2023, the SHIFT Gaming Experience was announced by the South African tournament organizer African Cyber Gaming League (ACGL), powered by MTN, in partnership with Redragon, Gizzu, and Computer Mania. Since then, we’ve seen several live events take place, and now, we’ve got some great news to share for Call of Duty esports fans.
As announced by ACGL, there’s a massive Call of Duty tournament, dubbed Champion of Champions, taking place at the Canal Walk in Cape Town, with a total prize pool of R60,000! Call of Duty teams have a chance to qualify for this event, which is where the online qualifiers come into play. Here’s what we know.
Online qualifier for COD Canal Walk
So there are only four spots in the Call of Duty at Canal Walk event. Two spots have already been claimed by the top two teams from the recent ACGL Grind MW2 series. The last two spots are open and will be filled with the top two teams from the online qualifier.
This online qualifier kicks off on 21 July 2023. You can head to the online qualifier’s registration page right now. Registration is free and closes on 20 July 2023.
This is a 4v4 COD Modern Warfare 2 event, featuring a double-elimination format. Teams must feature players 16 years and older, and any players aged 16 and 17 years old will require consent from a legal guardian to compete.
ACGL explains:
“Qualified teams will be invited to compete but should be aware that any players who are based outside of Cape Town will need to make their own way – at their own cost – to the live event at Canal Walk. Should a team turn down the invite, the next-best-placed team will be invited to compete.”
Game setup details:
- Game Modes: HP, SND, Control, HP, SND
- Activision ID: Players should provide their exact Activision ID. (Example Activision ID: Example#7412898) Your Activision ID can be found here
- Gentleman’s Agreement (GA) rules are not enforced in ACGL tournaments.
- CDL gamemode must be selected
Selected matches from the online qualifier will also be streamed by ACGL, so it is really an exciting qualifier. The top two teams get to play on LAN in front of a crowd at Canal Walk at the end of August. Yes, if you qualify for the COD at Canal Walk event, your team is guaranteed a piece of the R60,000 prize pool.
You can keep up to date with all their announcements by following ACGL on Twitter and Facebook and joining their Discord server.
