Warzone 2.0 release date and platforms

While most Call of Duty fans should be excited about the Modern Warfare 2 release on 28 October 2022, and many are already checking out the beta, one cannot forget that Warzone has also become a staple esports title. In case you’ve been living under a rock, Warzone 2.0 has been revealed.

Competitive battle royale players should be foaming at the mouth to drop into the biggest Call of Duty map ever created, called Al Mazrah. However, there is a bit of confusion surrounding the release date and platforms Warzone 2.0 will be available on, and what will happen to the original Warzone, for that matter.

Warzone 2.0 platforms & release

First and foremost, as most should have guessed, you don’t have to purchase Modern Warfare 2 to play Warzone 2.0. Warzone 2.0 and the DMZ extraction mode will both be free-to-play forever. It will also have an anti-cheat built-in on release day, 16 November 2022.

Warzone 2.0 will launch alongside Modern Warfare 2 Season 1, not to be confused with the release of Modern Warfare 2 on 28 October. This is where some confusion came into play, as some fans thought Warzone 2.0 and MW2 would release on the same date.

Activision states: “Expect Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 to extend the Modern Warfare II universe, and fully leverage the most advanced tech – shared for the first time across Call of Duty – to deliver an all-new and seamless Battle Royale experience before, during, and after a match. This is a Call of Duty technology built for next-gen, offering a shared experience and systems, with key learnings from Call of Duty®: Modern Warfare® (2019) as well as community feedback. The key innovations discussed for Multiplayer gameplay exist across Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 as well”

That did cause another point of confusion for some, with all the mention of next-gen and advanced tech. We are here to set the record straight, as Warzone 2.0 has been confirmed to launch on PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and yes, PS4 and Xbox One.

If you don’t want to switch to Warzone 2.0, then we’ve got some good news to share. Activision did recently confirm that “the original Call of Duty: Warzone is continuing” and that more information will be shared at a later date.

For now, we are just excited to experience Warzone 2.0 once it releases on 16 November 2022!
