CS:GO Asia Minor Closed Qualifier Day 1 Results
The CS:GO Asia Minor Middle East Closed Qualifier kicked off yesterday (5 March) in Dubai. In case you’ve been living under a rock with no access to Twitch.tv, you might have missed the South African teams competing at the event. Both ATK Arena and Goliath Gaming are in Dubai competing for their shot at the ESL Rio 2020 tournament. Here’s a look at the results for the first day, as well as the next round of matches and the times the South African teams will compete.
Closed Qualifier Day 1 results
ATK Arena’s CS:GO squad went up against YaLLa Esports in their opening match of the Asia Minor Middle East Closed Qualifier. ATK started off strong with a convincing 16-6 win on Inferno. However, YaLLa Esports fought back hard on Overpass, beating ATK 16-9. The third map (Nuke) resulted in a nailbiting affair, with YaLLa Esports narrowly beating ATK 16-14, knocking the South African team down to the Lower Bracket of the tournament.
Goliath Gaming’s first match against NASR Esports went down a little better. The squad managed to secure a tight win against their opponents on Overpass (16-14). On Inferno, Goliath failed to secure a 2-0 sweep, as NASR Esports took the map 16-11. Goliath came back on the third map (Mirage), looking exceptionally strong and beat down NASR with a score of 16-6. Goliath moved on to the next round of the Upper Bracket (semifinals) to face off against YaLLa Esports.
Unfortunately, YaLLa Esports didn’t give Goliath any room to breathe. YaLLa defeated Goliath in an exciting game on Train with a score of 19-17, followed by a convincing 16-4 victory on Inferno. Goliath, therefore, was knocked down to the Lower Bracket of the tournament.
Last up, ATK Arena faced off against NASR Esports for their tournament lives and you could see their big game temperament kick in, as the players looked relatively calm and collected. ATK beat NASR 16-10 on Inferno. However, NASR seemed to be mounting a comeback on Train with a 16-4 victory, evening out the series. ATK wasn’t ready to go home yet, as they upped their game on Mirage and convincingly with a 16-6 win, taking down the series and moving on to the next round of the Lower Bracket.
