Shanghai Major MENA Qualifier results: How teams from ZA did

Last week, we reported with much excitement that two Counter-Strike 2 esports teams filled with South African players would be competing in the Middle East & Africa closed qualifier event for the Shanghai Major Middle East RMR. Now, the dust has settled over this important event, and we’ve got some news to share.

Shanghai Major MENA Qualifier results

The results are in, and unfortunately, South African players didn’t make it to the Shanghai Major Middle East RMR event, as they failed to make it through the qualifier. First off, The Punishers had to withdraw from the event. Bravado Gaming, however, did compete.

Bravado Gaming “won” their opening match as The Punishers didn’t compete and then got knocked down to the lower bracket by Onyx Ravens, who eventually made it to the grand finale. In the lower bracket, Bravado Gaming fought tooth and nail, but couldn’t beat eventual winners DRILLAS.

DRILLAS made quick work of Bravado Gaming on Vertigo with a 13-1 win, and while Bravado did show some teeth on Nuke, they still lost 13-8, getting knocked out 2-0 by DRILLAS. For those who don’t know, DRILLAS is a team from content creator OhnePixel, built to compete in the Shanghai Major RMR event. They did go on to beat Onyx Ravens with a 2-0 in the grand final and qualified for the Shanghai Major Middle East RMR event.

Despite not qualifying for the RMR, it is always awesome to see South African players compete on the international stage. Bravado Gaming, with four South African players and a Swedish APWer (learn more about Project Destiny 2.0), had me on the edge of my seat!
