Valorant Firestarter Cup delayed until 2021

The Valorant ZA Community recently announced a Valorant Firestarter Cup, with a prize pool of R7,500 or more for those in sub-Saharan Africa to enjoy, including South Africans, of course. It was supposed to kick off on 8 December. However, it has now been delayed until 2021, taking community feedback into consideration.

Valorant Firestarter Cup details

While there is no exact new start date for the Valorant Firestarter cup, we do have a few details.

First off, it is open to teams from South Africa, Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Congo, Swaziland, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Seychelles, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

We contacted the tournament organizer, who had some great news, noting this is just the first tournament, and there are more to come in 2021, explaining:

“The Firestarter Valorant Community cup is just the start! Thanks to various community members, we’ve got a few tournaments lined up for 2021. Its time #ValorantZA ignites their flames!”

There will be at least a prize pool of R7,500 up for grabs, with R5,000 in cash. Then, there are also five R500 FoxyTech vouchers. Speaking of which, the tournament is brought to you by the Valorant ZA Community. It is powered by partners AOC South Africa as well as FoxyTech. It appears two additional sponsors will be revealed in due course.

On Twitter, Valorant ZA Community created a poll to ask if teams would like the tournament to take place from 8th to 16th December, or delay it to next year. Voting results were nearly 59% in favour of delaying the tournament, prompting the tournament organizers to delay the Valorant Firestarter Cup.

Valorant ZA Community announces:

“The community has spoken! We’ll be delaying the Firestarter Tournament until next year #ValorantZA so that more teams will have the chance to join.”

This is a great move by the organizer. With the holiday season and everything going on right now, many teams might not be able to participate.

If you are interested in the Valorant Firestarter Cup, you can and probably should join their Discord server, as well as follow the Valorant ZA Community on Twitter.

We look forward to hearing more about the Valorant Firestarter Cup next year. We will bring you all the details once we know more.
