Eight teams competed for their share of the $500,000 prize pool in this massive LAN event, which took place recently in Berlin, Germany, at the LEC Studio. Following various methods of qualification, we saw these eight teams take the stage for an extremely exciting event.
The VCT 2022 Game Changers Championship featured a double-elimination bracket, where all matches were best-of-three, except for the finals, which was a best-of-five slugfest.
In the first round of the playoffs, we saw G2 Gozen demolish X10 Sapphire with a clean 2-0 win, and then beat Cloud9 White in an exciting reverse sweep. G2 Gozen then went on to beat Team Liquid Brazil 2-0, with both maps being extremely close.
On the other side of the bracket, after getting knocked down by Team Liquid Brazil, Shopify Rebellion GC beat X10 Sapphire, and Cloud9 White and took their revenge against Team Liquid Brazil to make it to the grand final.
In the grand final, Shopify Rebellion GC won the first two maps, putting them one map away from the championship win. However, G2 Gozen came back swinging hard. They managed to win the next three maps in dominating fashion. How dominating? Well, their opponents only managed ten rounds across all three final maps of the VCT 2022 Game Changers Championship. Yes, only 10 rounds!
Final standings:
- 1st place – G2 Gozen wins $180,000.
- 2nd place – Shopify Rebellion GC wins $110,000.
