At the Esports World Cup 2025, one of the largest StarCraft II events in recent memory took place in Boulevard Riyadh City, Saudi Arabia, where 18 of the world’s top players competed for their share of the $700,000 prize pool. That’s roughly R12.4 million, in case you were wondering! Here’s how things went down.
SC2 EWC 2025 results
During the Play-In Stage, it was ByuN and HeRoMaRinE who made it through to the Group Stage, while Astrea fell first, followed by Lambo.
In the Group Stage, we saw Terran players Clem and Maru top Group A, and both Zerg players Reynor and Solar made it through by the skin of their teeth. In Group B, it was herO and Serral running through the Upper Bracket, and Classic and Cure who rounded out the final eight for the Playoffs Stage.
The StarCraft II event’s Playoffs Stage didn’t disappoint, with Finnish Zerg player, Joona “Serral” Sotala, narrowly defeating fellow Zerg player, Reynor, in a 3-2 Quarterfinals. Serral then went on to beat South Korean Terran, Cure, with a dominating 4-0 to make it to the Grand Final.
On the other side of the bracket, it was the South Korean Protoss star Classic who defeated Terran Clem in a 3-0 sweep and Zerg Solar in a convincing 4-1 to make it to the Grand Final.
In the Grand Final, the Finnish Zerg, Serral, was just too much for Classic to handle. Despite Classic picking up a couple of map wins, it was Serral who maintained the lead to win 5-2 in the Grand Final, and lifted the coveted trophy.
A big congratulations go out to Joona “Serral” Sotala for winning the tournament, and the lion’s share of the prize pool at $200,000!
