Comic Con Cape Town boasts 4 days of esports action
Yes, I know you probably can’t throw a goomba (that’s a Super Mario reference) without hitting some news about Comic Con Cape Town, which takes place from 1 to 4 May 2025, promising hundreds of activities for attendees.
Since we are Esports Central, I wanted to remind all our readers that Comic Con Cape Town is not just about buying a bunch of swag, eating great food, meeting celebrities, and all the regular stuff. Each year, there’s also a bunch of esports action to watch and enjoy. Some of these you can watch, and others you can enter.
Comic Con Cape Town Esports
First up, you should head on over to the Comic Con Africa website and get some tickets. The event takes place from 1 to 4 May 2025 in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa. The venue is CTICC 2 (Cape Town International Convention Centre 2), and last year, when I attended, all the esports took place on the second floor, which had a solid setup.
So there are two main attractions you should visit, namely the Telkom VS Gaming area and The Toyota Gaming Engine (TTGE).
VS Gaming at Comic Con Cape Town
The VS Gaming area will be home to the eDiski Season 8 Finals at Comic Con Cape Town 2025, featuring intense EA FC 25 action from South Africa’s top players as they go head-to-head in a single-elimination showdown. There’s also the High School Esports League (HSEL) to look forward to, and fans can enjoy the large free-to-play zone with the following:
- Telkom Plus Mobile Games Showdown
- Fastest Goal Challenge
- Openserve Sim Racing
- Telkom Smart Home experience

TTGE at Comic Con Cape Town
I can safely say that I thoroughly enjoyed watching the action from TTGE at last year’s Comic Con Cape Town, with the fantastic organizers delivering so much competitive goodness that I just couldn’t withstand it all!
You can simply head to the TTGE’s Engine Room at Comic Con Cape Town to enjoy four days of free-to-play challenges. Toyota is, of course, the official event partner, and it definitely shows. Every day, the stage will rotate through showdowns while attendees set lap records and much more. Titles include:
- EA FC (Console & Mobile)
- Street Fighter
- Brawlhalla
- Gran Turismo 7 (Sim Racing)
- Clash Royale
- Subway Surfers
