Telkom VS Gaming 2020 registrations open today

VS Gaming ended last week with a press release announcing their 2020 plans. If you cut passed the 2019 accolades mentioned (including the Masters at Comic Con), you will find that today marks the day registrations open.

Well, they open today for three titles, and three titles only. However, there is only one Masters title. And if you are one of the communities who are not Counter-Strike, Dota 2 or League of Legends, your year may not exist at VS Gaming.

It should come as no surprise to hear which title bags the ‘Masters’ honour. Yes, it’s CS:GO. Dota 2 and League of Legends are Championship titles for 2020. One can only assume that this means CS:GO gets the bulk of the money, and the other two get, well, less of the money.

2020 will be split into “three micro-seasons, known as legs,” which will run online between March and August. A (new) short registration period will be opened before each leg starts.

The seasons culminate in a final featuring the top qualifying teams, scheduled for August 2020. This date looks set to miss the Comic Con dates this year, suggesting a standalone event is on the cards.

The registrations for leg one open today and close on 16 February. This will be followed by the second round of registrations, which open on 23 March and close 5 April.

Division Sizes
  • Premier Division – 10 Teams
  • First Division – 20 Teams
    • Two pools of 10 Teams each
  • Second Division – 40 Teams
    • Four pools of 10 Teams each
  • Third Division – 80 Teams
    • Eight pools of 10 Teams each
But Wait…

Before you wonder what happened to Rocket League, Call of Duty and the other titles supported in the past, they will feature “throughout the year [as] short-form cups.”

The press release says that VS Gaming “will specifically focus on less game titles to provide our community of gamers with a higher level of quality and service.” They will however be adding Mobile Leagues.

In the spirit of never leaving anybody behind, Telkom VS Gaming has also announced the launch of a mobile league platform, named Telkom Plus. This platform is available exclusively to Telkom customers. Gamers get to play games and stand a chance to win some epic prizes along their journey.

School Esports League

The ongoing High School Esports League (HSEL) returns for year three. Both organisations will work together to “ensure the dates coincide with the terms and do not clash with exams.”

This year’s HSEL will see school teams compete over two legs, with the qualifying teams being invited to compete at the HSEL Finals.

2020 HSEL game titles are:

  • Counter-Strike Global Offensive
  • League of Legends
