This week, the League of Legends World Championship (LoL Worlds 2025) kicks off, promising a wealth of top-tier action as teams fight for a chance to lift the Summoner’s Cup. Here’s what you need to know so you don’t miss out on any of the action.

Important LoL Worlds 2025 details

There are 16 teams from across the globe competing for their share of the enormous $5 million prize pool. At the current Dollar to Rand exchange rate, that’s roughly R86.7 million.

The action begins with the Swiss Stage from 15 to 19 October, and again from 22 to 25 October. All 16 teams compete in the 5-round Swiss format, where teams with 3 wins advance to the Playoffs Stage, and those who suffer three losses are eliminated.

In the Playoffs Stage, which takes place from 28 October to 2 November, and then ending with the finals on 9 November, the top eight teams will compete in a single-elimination bracket, where all matches are best-of-five, using the Fearless Draft system.

All stages of LoL Worlds 2025 are played on LAN, ending with the finals at the massive Dong’an Lake Sports Park Multifunctional Gymnasium venue.

During the Play-In Stage on Tuesday, 14 October, it was T1 who came out on top, claiming the final spot in the main event of LoL Worlds 2025 by beating Invictus Gaming with a 3-1 score.
