Dota 2 Ranked Roles update released by Valve
The Dota 2 Ranked system isn’t perfect and there are always people complaining that the matchmaking isn’t fair. Some concerns are valid, while others seem far-fetched. However, some adjustments and changes to the matchmaking can be made to make it just a little bit better for everyone. Now, Valve has given a Dota 2 Ranked Roles update and made some great changes.
Dota 2 Ranked Roles update
With the latest update, the Dota 2 Ranked Roles changes are live. Valve made a big change to the rank system that replaces the Core/Support separation with a single rank that uses handicaps for the five different ranked roles, which represents your relative strength playing in each position.
Valve explains in a new blog post that:
“This change will help the matchmaker better account for a player’s different performance levels between various roles. Winning or losing games will modify your single rank. When queuing for your best role(s), the matchmaker will consider your full MMR. Queuing for your weaker role(s), however, will result in the matchmaker placing you into a match at a lower MMR. When you match into a game, it will display the adjusted badge levels that were used to match each player. Regardless of which role you queue for and play, the results of the match will affect your actual MMR value.”
With the new Dota 2 Ranked Roles update, the initial levels for each role are calculated based on your previous Core/Support MMR values. Further, it is based on an analysis of the previous 100 games you’ve played. Players can track their current role adjustments in the Role Queue menu.
While there is a tonne of South Africans who play Ranked matches in Dota 2, many also shy away from them. If you jump on the European servers for Ranked matches, you experience high latency (because light can only travel that fast). With that being said, the latency to European servers isn’t bad at all.
