IEM Summer 2021 – Results and highlights

After a gruelling group stage, six of the top CS:GO esports teams in the world made it to the IEM Summer 2021 playoffs. From 11 to 13 June, we saw some incredible CS:GO matches take place during the IEM Summer 2021 playoffs, as teams gave it their all for their share of the $250,000 prize pool. Here’s what went down.

IEM Summer 2021 – Results and highlights

In the quarterfinals of the playoffs, the highest-ranked team in the world, Gambit Esports, made quick work of the North American hope Evil Geniuses with a clean 2-0 victory. In the semifinals, Gambit Esports beat down French squad G2 esports in styles with another 2-0.

Team Vitality overcame Virtus.pro in the other quarterfinals of IEM Summer 2021. However, OG proved too much for Vitality to handle in a close semifinals match which ended 2-1 in OG’s favour. The IEM Summer 2021 grand final took place on Sunday evening, with OG facing off against Gambit Esports.

Gambit, showing why they are considered the best team in the world, beat OG 16-14 on Mirage, which would be the closest map in the series. Gambit continued their dominance against OG, defeating the international squad 16-11 on Dust II, followed by a very convincing 16-7 on Overpass.

With their dominant performance, Gambit swept OG in the grand finals of IEM Summer 2021 with a clean 3-0 victory.

Final results and standings:
  • 1st place – Gambit win $100,000
  • 2nd place – OG win $42,000
  • 3rd & 4th place – G2 and Vitality win $20,000 each
  • 5th & 6th place – Evil Geniuses and Virtus.pro win $10,000 each
  • 7th & 8th place – Complexity and NIP win $6,000 each
  • 9th to 12th place – FPX, Astralis, Spirit and Heroic win $5,000 each
  • 13th to 16th place –  Sprout, Imperial, Extra Salt and Fnatic win $4,000 each

Congratulations go out to Gambit Esports for their win at IEM Summer 2021. This is truly the Gambit Era, and we can’t wait to see them compete again!
