The CS:GO esports just keeps on coming this year. Following the BLAST Premier Spring Groups event, the second top-tier CS:GO tournament is about to begin. We are, of course, talking about IEM Katowice 2022, hosted by ESL. Here’s your viewer’s guide to IEM Katowice 2022, featuring all the important information.
IEM Katowice 2022 details
IEM Katowice 2022 is a LAN event, taking place in Katowice, Poland at the massive Spodek arena. The tournament runs from 15 to 27 February 2022 as the first Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) Grand Slam event of the year. 24 teams will compete at IEM Katowice 2022, but not all of them will even make it to the main event.
The tournament begins with play-in matches, where 16 teams will fight for eight spots at the main event. The play-in runs from 15 to 16 February and features a double-elimination bracket, with the first round of matches being best-of-one, and the rest being best-of-three.
From 17 to 20 February, the group stage will take place, featuring the eight teams who qualified for the play-ins, and the eight directly-qualified teams. Group stages feature a GSL-style format with two groups. The top three teams from each group advance to the playoffs.
Directly-qualified teams:
- Na’Vi
- Gambit
- G2 Esports
- Vitality
- Heroic
- Team Liquid
- FURIA
- Virtus.pro
On the last weekend of the month, from 25 to 27 February, the playoffs will take place. The quarterfinals and semifinals of the playoffs are best-of-three matches, while the grand final is best-of-five. This is a single-elimination bracket.
Teams are fighting for a prize pool of $1 million. At the current Dollar to Rand exchange rate, that’s over R15 million! The action begins each day at roughly 12:00 (midday) in SAST. You can watch all the IEM Katowice 2022 matches by tuning in to the ESL CS:GO Twitch channel, so don’t miss out.
