IEM Katowice 2024 Play-In viewer’s guide
Before we get to the main event of IEM Katowice 2024, Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) esports fans are treated to the Play-In stage, where 16 teams will compete for 8 spots. Here’s what you need to know.
IEM Katowice Play-In details
Taking place in Poland, Katowice, the iconic tournament series hosted by ESL, returns in 2024. Before the main event, we’ll see teams compete in a double-elimination bracket. Opening matches are best-of-one, while all following matches are best-of-three.
The top eight teams from the Play-In stage advance to the Group Stage of the main event. The IEM Katowice 2024 Play-In stage takes place from 31 January to 2 February 2024. The teams who get eliminated in 21st to 24th place only get $2500, and 17th to 20th place only get $4500 of the massive $1 million prize pool. That’s roughly R19 million, in case you were wondering.

The eight teams who make it through the Play-In stage will compete against the eight directly invited teams in the Group Stage, followed by the playoffs, which will be held at the awesome Spodek Arena in February.
