From 16 to 18 August 2024, the IEM Cologne 2024 playoffs took place in front of a huge crowd in Cologne, Germany, at the Cathedral of Counter-Strike, and the action didn’t disappoint. Here’s what went down for those who couldn’t watch the live Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) esports action.

The final six CS2 teams competed in the playoffs for their share of the $1 million prize pool, the coveted IEM Cologne 2024 trophy, and direct invites to the BLAST Premier World Final and IEM Katowice.

In the first quarterfinal match, MOUZ sent G2 Esports packing with a 2-0 win, while Portuguese side SAW shocked fans across the globe, eliminating one of the tournament favorites, FaZe Clan, in a dramatic series that went 2-1, with the final map going into overtime.

Team Vitality ended SAW’s fairytale run in the semifinals of IEM Cologne with a convincing 2-0, and NAVI stopped MOUZ in their tracks in the other semifinal match.

In the best-of-five grand finale of IEM Cologne, we saw Team Vitality start strong on NAVI’s map pick of Nuke, winning 16-14 in overtime. NAVI recovered to claim Vitality’s map pick of Dust2 with a 13-10 scoreline, making it 1-1 in the grand finale.

NAVI’s second map pick, Mirage, has been a favorite for IGL Aleksib, as the side was on a 12-map win streak. That all changed after Vitality pushed Mirage into triple overtime, eventually winning 22-20 in a nailbiter.

After the Mirage slugfest, Team Vitality finished off NAVI on Inferno with a 13-9 win, winning the grand finale 3-1 and lifting the IEM Cologne 2024 trophy. Congratulations!
