At the massive Esports World Cup (EWC) 2025 event in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) was on full display, finishing off two months of esports action in style. Here’s what went down in the big CS2 tournament, including a report, final standings, and a highlights video featuring the best plays from the Grand Final.

The CS2 tournament had a no-nonsense single-elimination bracket format, which meant that one mistake would send a team packing. With the best teams from across the globe in attendance, sparks flew from the start.

Two major upsets took place in the Round of 16, with 3DMAX sending NAVI packing in a 2-1 reverse-sweep, and HEROIC stunning Team Spirit with a 2-0. On one side of the bracket, Turkish powerhouse Aurora Gaming reverse-sweeped FaZe Clan with a 2-1, beat HEROIC 2-0, and Team Falcons 2-0 to make it to the Grand Final.

On the other side of the bracket, The MongolZ ran through GamerLegion 2-0, then beat 3DMAX 2-1, and slayed favorites, Team Vitality, with a 2-1 to make it to the Grand Final.

In the Third-Place Decider match on the final day of play, Team Falcons smashed Team Vitality with a 2-0 sweep, making a statement that they can compete against and beat the best.

In the best-of-five Grand Final, The MongolZ showed no mercy, beating Aurora to a pulp with a 16-14 win on Mirage, 13-9 on Dust2, and 13-4 on Nuke for a 3-0 clean sweep.

A huge congratulations go out to The MongolZ for winning the CS2 event at Esports World Cup and claiming the first-place prize of $500,000. Sodbayar “Techno4K” Munkhbold won the MVP award and $50,000 extra prize money for his dominating performance.
