ESL Pro League Season 20 viewer’s guide

There’s no rest for Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) esports fans, and honestly, that’s awesome! Just as one big event finishes up, another begins. This week, ESL Pro League Season 20 kicks off, and it runs for a full three weeks. Here’s what you need to know so you don’t miss any of the action.

ESL Pro League Season 20 details

ESL Pro League Season 20 is a huge LAN event running from 3 to 22 September 2024, with the best CS2 teams in the world in attendance. A total of 32 teams are competing for their share of the $750,000 prize pool in Saint Julian’s, Malta, in front of a crowd at the InterContinental Malta venue. At the current Dollar to Rand exchange rate, that’s roughly R13.3 million to fight for.

The action begins with four triple-elimination format groups, with each group featuring eight teams. All matches are best-of-three. The first-place teams advance to the Quarterfinals of ESL Pro League Season 20, while the 2nd-place teams advance to the Round of 12 in the playoffs as the High Seeds. The third-placed teams in each group advance to the Round of 16 as the High Seeds, while the 4th-placed teams advance to the Round of 16 as the Low Seeds. The rest are eliminated.

The teams who survive the group stage will compete in a single-elimination bracket, where all matches are best-of-three, with the exception of the grand finale, which is best-of-five.
