IEM Rio 2023 viewer’s guide
Following the ESL Pro League Season 17 and before the BLAST Paris Major 2023, CS:GO esports fans have another big tournament to watch. Yes, top-tier CS:GO esports is returning to Brazil for the IEM Rio 2023 tournament, so here are the essential details fans need to know about.
IEM Rio 2023 details
16 of the best CS:GO esports teams in the world will compete in Brazil, Rio de Janeiro, at the Jeunesse Arena, for their share of the $250,000 prize pool. At the current Dollar to Rand exchange rate, that’s roughly R4.6 million to fight for. The winner also claims a spot at the prestigious IEM Cologne 2023 later this year.
The tournament runs from 17 to 24 April 2023. It begins with a group stage featuring two double-elimination format GSL-style groups, with eight teams each. Opening matches are best-of-one, while all other matches are best-of-three. The top three teams from each group advance to the playoffs. Specifically, the winners of each group go directly to the semifinals, while the runners-up claim a spot in the quarterfinals as the high seeds, while the 3rd-placed teams from each group are also in the quarterfinals as the low seeds.
The playoffs feature a single-elimination bracket, with the semifinal and quarterfinal matches being best-of-three and the grand final being a best-of-five slugfest.
