RLCS 2022-23 SSA Winter Open this weekend: Viewer’s guide
Following the exciting open and closed qualifiers for the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) for Sub-Saharan Africa, the RLCS 2022-2023 SSA Winter Open kicks off with a bang this weekend. Here’s what you need to know so you don’t miss a second of the action.
RLCS 2022-2023 SSA Winter Open details
This is an online event taking place this weekend, from 27 to 29 January 2023. There’s a huge prize pool of $20,000 on the line and some RLCS points for teams to acquire as well. At the current Dollar to Rand exchange rate, that’s roughly R430,000.
In terms of the tournament format, we will first see a group stage where the 16 teams competing are split into four groups of four. This stage features a Round Robin format, where all matches are best-of-five. The winner of each group advances to the Quarterfinals of the playoffs, while 2nd and 3rd-place finishers in each group quality for Round 1o fo the playoffs, and the 4th-placed teams are eliminated.
The playoffs will feature a single-elimination bracket format. The Round 1 matches of the playoffs are best-of-five, while the rest are best-of-seven slugfests. Going into the RLCS 2022-2023 SSA Winter Open, Limitless is the team to beat, following dominating performances in the Fall Series. For those who don’t recognize the name, they used to be called May Contain Nuts and won a bunch of these RLCS SSA tournaments in a row.
