ALGS Year 4 Championship viewer’s guide

If you are a fan of Battle Royale, especially of the Apex Legends variety, then you are in for a treat this week. The best teams in the world are competing for their share of a massive prize pool, and you can watch all the action live. Here’s what you need to know about the ALGS Year 4 Championship event.

ALGS Year 4 Championship details

First, the ALGS Year 4 Championship begins on Wednesday, 29 January, and runs until Sunday, 2 February 2025. All four days are jam-packed with action as the best 40 teams compete for a share of the $2 million prize pool. At the current dollar-to-rand exchange rate, that’s a whopping R37 million. Teams are playing at the Daiwa House PREMIST DOME venue in Sapporo, Japan, with a huge crowd expected.

The action begins with a Group Stage on 29 and 30 January 2025. Here, teams are split into four groups of 10 each, competing in a Round-Robin format, with each group playing against the other groups. Teams play 3 Match Series (18 games) in the group stage. The top 20 teams make to the Winners Bracket, while the bottom 20 teams earn a spot in the Losers Bracket Round 1.

On 31 January, the first round of the Losers Bracket takes place, and on 1st February, both the Losers Bracket Round 2 and the Winners Bracket will take place. The top 10 teams in the Losers Bracket Round 2 and in the Winners Bracket will advance to the Finals, which takes place this Sunday, 2 February 2025. In the Finals, the remaining 20 teams compete in a Match Point format, where the first team to reach 50 points and THEN get a 1st-place finish in an upcoming match is crowned the overall winner.
