IEM Cologne 2024 viewer’s guide
With the Play-In stage of IEM Cologne 2024 now complete, Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) esports are in for a treat. Starting this weekend, the main event of IEM Cologne 2024 begins, with the best teams globally competing for a huge prize pool and the coveted trophy. Let’s jump in and discuss the most important details.
IEM Cologne 2024 details
The IEM Cologne 2024 main event takes place this week from 9 to 18 August 2024 in Cologne, Germany. A total of 16 teams are competing for their share of the huge $1 million prize pool, which is roughly R18.5 million at the current Dollar to Rand exchange rate.
The Group Stage features two double-elimination format GSL-style groups with eight teams each, where all matches are best-of-three. The top three teams from each group advance to the Playoffs Stage, with placement based on their performance in the Group Stage.
Please note: Four teams from the Play-In Stage will join Group A, and another four will join Group B.

The playoffs will be held at the LANXESS arena, also known by esports fans as the Cathedral of Counter-Strike. IEM Cologne 2024’s playoffs feature a single-elimination bracket format with all matches being BO3, except for the grand final, which is BO5.
