DreamHack Open Fall 2020 came to an end this past Sunday, and it was a joy to watch for any CS:GO fan. We saw some of the top teams in Europe compete for their share of the $115,000 prize pool, and most importantly to many, a spot at the IEM XV Global Challenge. Here’s what went down.

After a tough group stage, Danish squad Heroic found themselves in the lower bracket of the tournament. One loss meant the team would be eliminated from the tournament. However, Heroic went on – for the lack of a better term – a heroic run.

The team managed to achieve a miraculous lower-bracket run, beating North, Sprout, NiP, BIG, and Astralis to make their way to the grand final. Vitality, in the upper bracket, went on an absolute rampage, beating NiP, BIG and Astralis, only dropping one map to the latter.

In the grand final, we saw Vitality against Heroic, and it was one of the best CS:GO finals this year, going the distance. Vitality took the first map, Overpass, with a score of 19-17. However, Heroic showed their BMT, evening up the match score with an amazing 22-20 win on Nuke.

Heroic then beat Vitality 16-11 on Inferno, followed by Vitality taking down Vertigo with a round score of 16-10. With the grand final map score tied up at 2-2, Heroic came out firing on all cylinders on Mirage, closing out the thrilling series 3-2 in their favour. For their win, Heroic claims the first-place prize of $33,000, 2500 RMR points and arguably most important of all, a spot at the IEM XV Global Challenge.
