The International 2022 viewer’s guide

Following the Last Chance qualifier, all 20 Dota 2 esports teams competing in The International 2022 are now set. Taking place in Singapore, The International 2022 begins this weekend. Even if you aren’t a fan of MOBAs or Dota 2 in particular, it is a spectacle to watch, as teams will compete for a gigantic prize pool and the Aegis of Champions. Here’s what you need to know about The International 2022.

The International 2022 details

To explain the gravity of the situation, The International 2022’s prize pool currently stands at around $15 million and will keep growing via Battle Pass and related purchases until a victor is crowned. At the current Dollar to Rand exchange rate, that’s roughly R277 million and counting…

The Saturday, 15 October 2022, The International 2022’s group stage will begin, and it will run until 18 October. The group stage sees the 20 teams split up into two groups of 10. It features a single round-robin format where all matches are best-of-two.

The top four teams from the group stage advance to the Upper Bracket of the playoffs, while the 5th to 8th-placed teams advance to the Lower Bracket of the playoffs. Those in the bottom two spots of each group get eliminated. Check out the groups below.

The main event, aka the playoffs, runs over the two final weeks of October. From 20 to 23 October, and then again from 29 to 30 October 2022, when a champion will be crowned. 16 teams who made it out of the group stage will compete in a double-elimination bracket, with eight starting in the Upper Bracket and eight in the Lower Bracket, depending on their standing when the group stage ends.
