The International 2022 prize pool already over R200 million

Every year, The International 2022 breaks the record for the biggest prize pool of a single esports tournament. This is thanks to the battle pass and a percentage of all proceeds going directly into the prize pool. With 12 Dota 2 esports teams directly qualified via the DPC and six more via the regional qualifiers, only two spots are left.

This year, we will see 20 teams compete for a massive prize pool in Singapore from 15 to 30 October 2022. Before we get there, the prize pool will surely grow by millions more.

The prize pool will continue to grow until the grand finals of The International 2022 is complete on 30 October 2022. However, as we love watching the prize pool grow each year, we wanted to let all our readers know that The International 2022’s prize pool has already gone over R200 million.

At the time of writing, the prize pool is at $12,141,134. Remember, Valve provides a baseline prize pool of $1,600,000; the rest is crowdfunded via the battle pass and related purchases. At the time of writing, the current Dollar to Rand exchange rate means that’s a prize pool of R213 million already.

To be clear, 25% of the battle pass and related purchases go into the prize pool, while Valve gets 75%. Yes, that’s a whole lot of money.

There is no telling just how big The International 2022’s prize pool will get. With so many additions such as new Immortal Treasures and the inevitable bundle sale still to come, we expect it to reach at least $30 million. Will it break the esports prize pool record of $40 million set by The International 2021? Only time and your wallets will tell!
