Sinister5 wins EGL One Season 3, retires org
Since July this year, we’ve seen African Dota 2 esports teams compete at the huge EGL One Season 3 event from Evesports, Dell and Intel. Following some delays in matches due to loadshedding, EGL One Season 3 has finally finished up. Here’s what went down during the playoffs.
EGL One Season 3 results
During the playoffs of EGL One Season 3, Sinister5 demolished the opposition on their way to the grand final. They beat Ashi and Friends, White Rabbit Gaming, Exdee Gaming, and Benchwarmers without dropping a single game.
Benchwarmers went through Enter the Wukong with a 2-0, then their next opponents forfeited. The team then went on to beat ZIZ with a 2-0 before falling to Sinister5. However, Benchwarmers fought back to beat Exdee Gaming in the lower bracket final and make their way to the grand final of EGL One Season 3.
In the grand final of EGL One Season 3, Sinister5 again showed why they are considered the best Dota 2 team in South Africa. While Benchwarmers managed to take the game map of the best-of-five grand final, Sinister5 came back swinging, winning the next three games to claim victory.
Top 5 final standings:
- 1st place – Sinister5 wins R25,000.
- 2nd place – Benchwarmers wins R12,500.
- 3rd place – Exdee Gaming wins R6,500.
- 4th place – ZIZ wins R4,000.
- 5th place – White Rabbit Gaming wins R2,000.
A big congratulations go out to Sinister5 for winning EGL One Season 3. The top four teams also get a direct invite to EGL One Season 4, which includes White Rabbit Gaming following a somewhat surprising announcement by Sinister5 just following EGL One Season 3.
Sinister5 retires org following win
Following their win at EGL One Season 3, Sinister5, which has been the top Dota 2 esports team in South Africa, has decided to retire. On Twitter, Sinister5 stated: “Friends and fans, we have done it again. This trophy, however, will be our last. We retire the org on a high, the way it should be. Our hearts are full of gratitude to all those who played a part in our journey. Oh, and what a journey it was! Tears of joy and appreciation. Hamba Kahle.”
At the time of writing, it is unclear where these very talented players will move. The only thing we know for sure right now is for EGL One Season 4, there will be a new top dog in South African Dota 2 esports.
