NiP announces new Dota 2 roster and UNiVeRsE retires from competitive play
Earlier this week, Peter “ppd†Dager has retired from competitive play, and that in early April, Ninjas in Pyjamas (NiP) released Saahil “UNiVeRsE” Arora from their roster. Now, NiP has announced an entirely new Dota 2 roster, while UNiVeRsE has taken a page out of Peter’s book, and retired.
NiP’s new Dota 2 roster
After Peter “ppd” Dager’s retirement, instead of building on what they have left, NiP decided to pick up a complete roster. You might have seen this roster play at ESL One Los Angeles under the name “Chicken Fingers”.
The new NiP Dota 2 roster:
- Charlie “Charlie†Arat
- OndÅ™ej “Supream^” Å tarha
- Jonáš “SabeRLighT-†Volek
- Adrian “Era†Kryeziu
- Akbar “SoNNeikO†Butaev
This roster did surprisingly well at ESL One Los Angeles, finishing fourth in the European league.
Jonas Gundersen, the COO of NiP, explained that:
“It’s been an ongoing process finding the right way to structure the new team, evaluating and optimising our own internal setup in the process. Sometimes when you get a clear overview, opportunities present themselves at perfect times.
The whole roster of Chicken Fighters are a great group of young players, with a perfect combination of hunger, talent, experience and a high willingness to learn. I couldn’t be more excited that they want to become part of the Ninjas in Pyjamas team, where I am sure we’ll be able to accomplish great things together.”
UNiVeRsE retires
Only days after Peter “ppd” Dager announced his retirement, UNiVeRsE took the same route, and retired from competitive Dota 2. The legendary player announced this news on Twitter.
UNiVeRsE gave a short explanation, stating that:
“I have decided to retire as a player from competitive dota 2. Whenever I do anything in life I tend to be an all or nothing type of person and dota was no different. For the past 10 years, I have given everything I have to this game/competition and it was an incredible experience. Now the time has come to pursue other interests and figure out what comes next. Thank you to my fans and past teammates for the amazing memories I will never forget.”
In the space of one week, the Dota 2 esports community has lost two legends to retirement.
