LoL 2022 World Championship playoffs begin this week
League of Legends esports fans has undoubtedly had a fabulous time watching the 2022 World Championship (aka Worlds 2022) take place. The playoffs will finally begin this week, and we couldn’t be more excited. Here’s what you need to know.
LoL Worlds 2022 playoffs
The best 24 League of Legends teams in the world competed in the crowing event of the year, LoL Worlds 2022. Only eight remain as Worlds 2022 enters its final stage, the playoffs.
These teams compete not only to lift the Summoner’s Cup but also for their share of the huge $2,225,000 prize pool. At the current Dollar to Rand exchange rate, that’s roughly R41 million.
The playoffs feature a single-elimination format, where all matches are best-of-five. Check out the quarter-final matches below. All times are in SAST.
- JD Gaming vs Rogue – 20 October at 23:00
- T1 vs Royal Never Give Up – 21 October at 23:00
- Gen.G Esports vs DAMWON Gaming – 22 October at 23:00
- DRX vs EDward Gaming – 23 October at 23:00
Following the quarter-final matches, the semi-finals matches will take place on 29 and 30 October 2022 starting at 23:00 SAST. Then, on 6 November, the grand finals of Worlds 2022 will take place, starting at 02:00 SAST. The grand finals of Worlds 2022 will take place at the Chase Center in San Franciso, and it is sure to be an extraordinary affair. It might be a bit difficult for South Africans to watch all these matches live due to the tournament taking place in the US.
