League of Legends Challenger Series S2 announced

South African tournament organizer Mettlestate has announced the League of Legends Challenger Series Season 2 following a successful first season that ended in August. There’s a combined prize pool of R10,000 on the line that local League of Legends teams can compete for. Here’s what you need to know.

LoL Challenger Series S2 details

First and foremost, registration for the League of Legends Challenger Series Season 2 is free. You can head to the Open Division’s page on Mettlestate to register today. Registration closes on Sunday, 28 August 2022, so don’t miss out!

Mettlestate explains the format: “The second season will follow much of the same structure of the first, featuring group stages, playoffs, and grand finals. At the end of the season, the bottom 4 teams from the Pro division and the top 4 teams from Open division each season will play once again for promotion and relegation. After completing a single elimination bracket, the top 4 teams on the board will be promoted to and seeded for the Pro division in the following season, and the bottom 4 will be relegated to Open.”

As mentioned at the start of this article, there is a total prize pool of R10,000 to fight for. R3,000 is for the Open Division, while R7,000 is for the Pro Division. Check out the prize pool distributions below.

Open Division:
  • 1st place – R1,500
  • 2nd place – R1,000
  • 3rd place – R500
Pro Division:
  • 1st place – R3,500
  • 2nd place – R2,500
  • 3rd place – R1,000

Carly Twaddle, Mettlestate’s project manager, had this to say about the local League of Legends scene and the Challengers Series: “If you invest in a community over an extended period of time, and if you pay attention to what they need, the scene will grow. That’s exactly what Mettlestate is doing with the League of Legends community. Our team has been working hard with members of the League community to bring them what they need. There are endless opportunities, it just takes the right people to seize and nurture them.”

Good luck to all the teams entering the League of Legends Challenger Series Season 2!
